Kiersten Whitehead
Friends Community School’s music teacher Kiersten Whitehead brings her passion for the performing arts to Musical Theater Boot Camps at FCS Summer Camp for rising 5th through 8th graders and 3rd through 5th graders. Kiersten directs several FCS performances throughout the school year—including the annual, full-length 6th-grade musical—but looks forward to these camps that “allow for freedom,” Kiersten explains. “It’s an immersion. We can focus on the specialty all day.”
Musical Theater Boot Camp will “hit the big three,” Kiersten says, referring to acting, singing, and dancing. Based on a program Kiersten started at Imagination Stage, the sessions will each tackle four or five songs. The week will culminate with a performance.
Kiersten’s own stage experience—usually in comedic operatic roles—informs her coaching of young performers. “I’ve always loved being able to help kids find their voice.”
