FCS Parent Association (PA)

The Parent Association (PA) provides support to FCS and the FCS community. All FCS parents are members of the PA, which cultivates community-building through activities and provides a forum for sharing information on issues that affect our children. Meetings are usually held once a month in the evening at the school; childcare is provided.

FCS Board of Trustees

The FCS Board of Trustees comprises members of local Quaker Meetings, parents, friends of the school, and a teacher. The Board is responsible for hiring the Head of School, major policies, financial sustainability, and developing the school’s Strategic Plan. Members of the FCS Board of Trustees serve a three-year term.

  • Obadiah Aguilar

    Obadiah joined the FCS community in 2016, when his daughter enrolled in Kindergarten. Obadiah is a Property Manager for the National Weather Service and a 17-year professional in personal property management, supporting federal agencies including the Missile Defense Agency, Defense Intelligence Agency, Transportation Security Administration, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. A native of New York City, Obadiah takes great pride in serving the local D.C. area community as both a Prince Hall Freemason and member of La Unidad Latina fraternity. He also serves on the FCS Buildings & Grounds Committee.
  • Adrian Bastien, Treasurer

    Adrian Bastien is the parent of two current FCS students. He works for the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group, and has worked in the investment and financial services industry since 1996. He has been a member of the FCS Finance Committee since 2016, a member of the FCS Board of Trustees since 2017, and served as Treasurer since 2018. Adrian received an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA from Morehouse College.
  • Virginia Bainbridge

    Virginia grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, and attended Wilmington Friends School from K-12. She is a member of Shepherdstown Friends Meeting, a former Clerk of the New London Friends Meeting in Connecticut, and has served on the Nominating Committee, Permanent Board, and Long Range Financial Planning Committee for New England Yearly Meeting. Along with a career in occupational therapy and mental health services, Virginia has been a volunteer with a crisis telephone service in the U.S. and in West Africa. Recently she returned to Liberia to lead crisis service workshops and also volunteer at an orphanage and help women's groups start micro-financed businesses.
    She has a BA in psychology from Carleton College, a certificate in occupational therapy from Columbia University, and a Masters in Public Health from Yale University. Virginia has been married for 49 years to her husband, David. They have two children and five grandchildren.
  • Stephanie Bean, Recording Clerk

    Steph Bean is a mom to three kids who’ve attended FCS--one when the school was on Calvert Road, and the other two who are currently in 4th and 6th grades. She’s a member of Adelphi Friends Meeting and active in Baltimore Yearly Meeting. She also volunteers for organizations that work to improve relationships and communication, including the Parent Encouragement Program and Friends Couple Enrichment. She has been a massage therapist for 14 years, specializing in helping those with older bodies or more complicated needs. Her favorite part of serving as a Trustee for FCS is the ability to offer concrete support to the school, so that it will be around for many years to come, spreading joyful light as far as it can reach.
  • Jessica Braider

    Jessica Braider is the parent of two current FCS students and CEO of The Scramble, an online meal planning service. A member of Boulder (CO) Monthly Meeting, she attended Cambridge (MA) Friends School (K-8) and Haverford College (class of 2000), worked for two years at the Friends Committee on National Legislation, and served in governance roles at both FCNL and Haverford, where she has been a member of the Corporation since 2001.
  • Regis Carvalho

    Regis Carvalho is the parent of FCS students in 4th grade and Kindergarten. Motivated by the schoool's values and community to give back, Regis has been a classroom field trip coordinator, class booth organizer for Fall Fair, chaperone on many field trips (his favorite job), weekly class helper, and, for the past three years, Fall Fair clerk. Currently Regis is serving his second year on the FCS Board of Trustees and is the clerk of the Advancement Committee, looking at the sustainable future of FCS. Regis's professional career centers around studying, designing, evaluating, and analyzing pavements and developing software applications for pavement problems. He is the founding principal engineer at Oaken Consult LLC and the principal investigator for accelerated pavement research at the Turner Fairbanks Highway Research Center of the Federal Highway Administration. Regis is a graduate from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the University of Maryland (MSc, PhD), all in civil engineering. Regis and his wife, Ana, moved to the United States in 2002.
  • Janet Dixon, Clerk

    Janet has been actively involved with the FCS community since her son, a 2012 graduate, began kindergarten. She has taken on the full range of volunteer roles, from Field Trip Coordinator to Fall Fair Co-Chair for 3 years and everything in between. Currently in her fifth year as a Trustee, Janet serves as Clerk, having previously served as Co-Clerk of the Board and Clerk of the Advancement Committee. She has a lifelong career in recreation with local government and is the office manager for a large and energetic team in Montgomery County youth development. Janet is an Attender of Adelphi Friends Meeting.

  • Kathy Goldschmidt

    Kathy is the parent of two current FCS students and a member of Adelphi Friends Meeting. She returned to FCS and the Board in 2019 after a one-year hiatus, during which she and her family toured the United States. Kathy served as a Trustee from 2014-2018, including as Co-Clerk of the Board from 2016-2018. Professionally, for more than twenty years, Kathy has been assisting U.S. Senators, Representatives, and congressional staff through her research and writing at the Congressional Management Foundation. She was raised in Connecticut and attended Carleton College in Minnesota, where she majored in English and earned a teaching certificate in high school English and language arts.
  • Michael Levi, Assistant Clerk

    Michael Levi is the parent of an FCS alum and a member of Adelphi Friends Meeting. He has been on the FCS board since February 2018, and currently serves as Assistant Clerk. At work, Michael tries to make economic data accessible and intelligible. In the other part of his life, he likes to cook, play bridge, and scuba dive.
  • Alicia McBride

    Alicia McBride is a member of Sandy Spring Monthly Meeting, where she has served on a number of committees related to family engagement and religious education. She spent more than a decade leading communications for the Friends Committee on National Legislation, the Quaker lobby in Washington, DC, and currently works as FCNL's Director for Integrated Strategy and Impact. In addition to the FCS board, she serves on the Earlham School of Religion Board of Advisors. She has two children who attend Montgomery County public schools and attend Baltimore Yearly Meeting camps. She holds a B.A. in English from Carleton College and an M.S. in Technical Communication from the University of Washington Seattle.
  • Lara Oerter

    Lara Oerter is the parent of a current FCS student and a member of Adelphi Friends Meeting. She is clerk of the Quaker Life Committee and also serves on the Transition Committee. She has been teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages for over 20 years to all age ranges and has been working for Montgomery County Public Schools since 2001. At Adelphi Friends Meeting. Lara has been a First Day School teacher and has also served as clerk of the Religious Education Committee. She enjoys music, folk dancing, and playing board games with family and friends.
  • Trish Petty

    Trish Petty is the parent of an FCS middle-school student. She has been actively involved at FCS since 2010, serving as co-clerk for Fall Fair, admissions volunteer, and as a Trustee of the Board since 2014 (serving on the Diversity and Advancement Committees as well as Co-Clerk of the Head Search Committee). Trish previously taught kindergarten for 23 years and directed the after-school program at Holy Trinity School in Georgetown. Trish also served on the River Park Nursery School (Capitol Hill) parent board and currently serves on its parent alumni board.
  • Eric Rosenthal

    Eric Rosenthal's favorite FCS activity is volunteering with kids in the classroom, which he has done once or twice a week since his son--a member of the Class of 2020--was in kindergarten. Eric first learned to appreciate Quaker education and Quakerism while at Haverford College, where he served as student representative to the college’s Board of Managers. At FCS, he regularly volunteers for the Fall Fair, the auction, and staff appreciation day. He writes a monthly article about FCS for the Hill Rag. A pediatrician, Eric gives talks to the FCS 3rd and 4th grade students about puberty and the 7th and 8th grade students about sex. He helped organize the construction of FCS's outdoor classroom space. He is an admissions volunteer and served as a member of the kindergarten curriculum committee growing out of an Association of Independent Maryland Schools' (AIMS) visit. He was a member of the Board of Trustees Advancement Committee for two years. He has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2017. Eric served as President of River Park Nursery School for two years. He is former political director of Human Rights Campaign and now is a pediatrician in the Children’s Hospital emergency room. He has a bachelor’s degree from Haverford and medical and Masters of Public Health degrees from George Washington University.
  • Joanne Rotondi

    Joanne Rotondi is a parent of two FCS middle schoolers who have both been at the school since kindergarten. Joanne and her husband, Chris Oehrle, try to contribute to the school community with every chance their busy lives allow. Joanne served as co-clerk for the FCS Spring Auction from 2012 through 2017, a significant fundraising effort for tuition assistance at FCS. Joanne has served on the FCS Board of Trustees as one of the PA Reps since the Fall of 2017 and currently sits on the Governance and Personnel Committees. Professionally, Joanne is an attorney practicing environmental law at the global law firm of Hogan Lovells in Washington, DC. Joanne has a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and both a Law degree and a Masters of Environmental Economics and Policy degree from Duke University. Joanne and Chris have lived in University Park since 2001.
