Admissions

Admissions Welcome

COVID-19 Status: COVID-19 has altered some of our admissions practices, but we are here, eager to speak with you, and happy to answer your questions.
Welcome to Friends Community School!
Walk through the doors of FCS, and you’ll find students engaged in challenging, creative, inquiry-based learning — whether working on a mechanical invention in 1st grade or delving into a stock market project in 8th. You’ll meet teachers who see and know their students as individuals and encourage them to develop a deeper understanding of the world around them. You’ll discover that FCS students are self-reflective, self-confident, and self-advocates, respectful of their surroundings and each other.

As you begin your search for a school that is the right match for your child and family, we invite you to explore our nurturing and joyful community — a blend of Quaker values, progressive education, and a K-8 experience that creates compassionate leaders and curious learners.

We look forward to getting to know you and introducing you to FCS. Our admissions process kicks off each year in September for the following fall, with an application deadline in mid-January. We hope you’ll join us soon for an admissions event, where you’ll meet our teachers, our staff, our parents, and of course, our best ambassadors — our students. In the meantime, please feel free to contact us at any time with questions or to learn more about FCS as you embark upon your admissions journey. We are thrilled you are considering our school!

Warmly,

Caroline Johnson Kate O'Connor

Friends Community School: What's in a name?

As a Quaker school, we believe that intellectual education and moral education are integrally connected. Our core Quaker values — simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship — are embedded in our curriculum and our interactions with each other.

As a community, we are diverse and inclusive. We support one another in our day-to-day activities and in our larger endeavors as lifelong learners, courageous risk takers, and joyous peacemakers.

As a progressive school, FCS focuses on educating the whole child: socially, emotionally, intellectually, spiritually, and creatively. We recognize that children learn best from experience and meaningful relationships with peers and teachers. Our teachers meet students where they are and — through experiential and inquiry-based lessons, a child-centered curriculum, collaborative projects, and intentional reflection — promote deep learning.
