On occasion, I am reminded of the George Fox statement, “Let your life speak.” Actually, Fox may have said, “Let your life preach,” but the current translation communicates the message well. I was contemplating this message in Big Meeting for Worship this week, seeking greater understanding. Usually, it is not difficult to say the right thing, but it's harder to do it. What did Fox mean, and why did the Quaker educator, Parker Palmer, use it as the title of a book? How do we find meaning and purpose in life?
It can be challenging to live a life that is always consistent with one’s values. I struggle with answers to some of life’s important questions. What are my values, and how do they guide my life? How do I spend my time and my resources? How do I treat people? How do I resolve conflict with others? Can people rely on my word? What is my share of the earth’s limited resources, and how do I use them?  What brings me joy? The silence of Meeting is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on such queries.  In today’s busy, complex world, how often do we get such opportunities?

In Peace,
