The theologian Henri Nouwen wrote in Reaching Out: The Three Movements of the Spiritual Life that the word “community” usually refers to a way of being together that gives us a sense of belonging. Belonging is a basic human need. In the midst of a pandemic, shuttered in our homes, it is hard to feel like we are connected to others. But every Wednesday at Meeting for Worship, our students speak to the need and importance of belonging.
From the silence of worship comes small voices that share messages:
“I am happy to see your faces.”
“It is good to be with everyone, so we all can settle down in peace.”

When we gathered for worship at 5901 Westchester Park Drive, maybe one voice would pierce the silence of our worship. Six weeks have passed since we were last physically together for worship, and now several voices share messages from their hearts. In this unfamiliar space and time, our friends embrace something familiar: their belonging to a community.

A 4th grader recently shared in Meeting for Worship that there is always an opportunity in a crisis. While we are apart but connected online, FCS continues to find opportunities to reinforce our bonds and ties to one another. Please see the events and activities below, and join us.

In Peace and Partnership,
