Now and then, we receive messages from our Advancement Office entitled “Philanthropy Matters.” Last Friday evening, FCS was reminded that philanthropy matters a great deal to the school. We celebrated the successful completion of our Light the Way Endowment Fund. The fund will allow FCS to provide financial aid, increase faculty compensation, and provide additional professional development and resources to our families and faculty in the years ahead. The campaign, which kicked off in 2017 with a goal of $1.5 million, concluded with over $1.6 million. Over 225 people gave gifts, exceeding our aspirations and goals with profound generosity.
When I hear FCS’s origin story and learn about the successes we have achieved and the challenges we have weathered, I always think of the classic children’s story, “The Little Engine That Could.” A large train engine, tasked to carry toys to children over the mountain, cannot finish the job. A small engine offers his service, and with determination, grit, and confidence, he is able to make it to the other side of that mountain. He did so with the mantra, "I think I can, I think I can.” FCS is the little engine.

Philanthropy matters for an independent school such as FCS. The revenue generated from the net tuition doesn't cover all of our expenses. Yet, with the mantra, “We think we can, we think we can,” we have managed to successfully raise funds to purchase land, build our facilities, cultivate a thriving academic program, and hire thoughtful and skilled educators. It is the generosity of our families, grandparents, faculty and staff, members of Adelphi Friends Meeting, and friends of the school that give us the fuel to reach our goals. With our values of simplicity, stewardship, and integrity, we push ourselves to make resources and experiences available for today and tomorrow

In Peace and Partnership,
