11.15.19

During this summer and most of the fall, I have been visiting leading independent, parochial, and magnet high schools in the area to meet with admissions directors. These are schools many FCS 8th graders have chosen to attend, and I have been struck at how they see our graduates. Here are the actual words I have heard to describe our FCS students:
“academically well-prepared”
“ready to take advantage of all we have to offer”
“engaging their peers and teachers in thoughtful conversations and debates”
“able to advocate for themselves”
“willing to help others”
“kind”

Across different schools and for different students, what emerges is a picture of a balanced individual.

This idea was brought home on Tuesday night, when FCS hosted a panel of recent alumni to talk about the transition from FCS to high school. I heard young people who were poised, self -possessed, and articulate talk about how FCS prepared them for the challenges of high school. They talked about their adjustments and how they navigated increased workloads and new social experiences. They spoke of managing their time, advocating for themselves, and finding their passions in the lab, at internships, on the athletic fields, and in art studios.

It brings me great joy to know that FCS produces graduates that are sought-after, well-rounded, grounded and confident human beings.
