Katrina Abdussalaam

5th/6th Grade Math Teacher

"It's what you do in your moments of silence that determines your success."
Katrina joined the Friends Community School faculty in the 2017-18 school year. A native Washingtonian, she discovered a love of Quaker education as a student at Sidwell Friends School and Haverford College. Katrina has over 11 years of elementary-level teaching experience in D.C. public schools, not just in math but in reading and writing as well; ask Katrina about the virtues of children learning cursive! In 2012, Katrina was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Most recently, her career focused on elementary mathematics as a Eureka Math curriculum developer for Great Minds. In her spare time, Katrina enjoys traveling with her family.
