Van Nguyen

Director of Auxiliary Programs

“See what you can do to change the world!”
Van grew up watching their father build houses, an experience that informs their view of learning as building blocks coming together. Van joined FCS in 2017 after 7 years first as an extended day staff member, and then a preschool assistant and makerspace coordinator at Media-Providence Friends School in Pennsylvania. The welcoming spirit of Media-Providence encouraged Van to find another Friends school to work in when they relocated to the D.C. area. Prior to Media-Providence, Van organized and ran the curriculum for children ages 5-12 at the annual Philadelphia Trans-Health Conference. They have also served on the Board of the Leeway Foundation, a grant-making arts organization supporting women and trans artists and cultural producers working in communities at the intersection of art, culture, and social change. Outside of FCS, Van spends time with their toddler, sews costumes, and explores cooking (preferring to use food encyclopedias instead of recipes to understand how ingredients work together).
