Middle School Highlights

This month Middle School students have been sharing their voices in both writing and through practice with persuasive public speaking. Here are some highlights from the past few weeks.

6th Graders participated in “FCS Shark Tank: Ancient Sumer.” Students researched a variety of inventions from ancient Sumer, presented their invention and marketing plan to a panel of parent volunteer “sharks,” and then asked for funding.

8th Graders wrapped up a semester-long study of the Reconstruction period of US History in both Social Studies and Language Arts with research papers and a live debate on topics including whether it is possible in a democracy to help all people and whether art and culture are effective tools in fighting oppression.

The FoCuS, our Middle School student-run newspaper just printed its first issue on December 15. The team of 5th through 8th graders successfully identified, researched, and wrote stories about the many exciting changes at FCS since the start of this school year. You can read the issue here
