Jillian showed us that through drawing you can show different emotions. We use these kinds of things -- emojis -- to show emotions in comics. She shared different ways of showing what you might be saying or thinking about in a comic. Here she is illustrating how to make chocolate chip cookies. Here is the finished product!

A Virtual Author Visit with Jillian Tamaki

Alexandra Whyte
FCS Kindergarteners got a rare opportunity to talk with an author and illustrator on October 22. Jillian Tamaki is a cartoonist and illustrator from Canada but this week she was able to visit all of our students in their homes through a live Google Meet. The author reading was organized by the bookstore Politics and Prose.
During her talk we learned about materials she uses for her illustrations, and how she was first a comic book author before writing children's books. She read from her most recent book, Our Little Kitchen, which is about making food for people who need it in Brooklyn NY.
