In the late 1980s and early 90s, , MTV ran a program called MTV Unplugged. It featured major recording artists, such as Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, Jay-Z, REM, and a host of other performers, singing their notable hits, but with their electric guitars and synthesizers unplugged. You could hear the purity of singers’ voices, gain a different appreciation of the lyrics, and discover that you had been singing the wrong words. Without all the noise and enhancements, a raucous rock song or a techno dance tune transformed into a poignant ballad. An old familiar song became something intriguing and beautiful.
Today is FCS Unplugged. Our teachers and staff are turning off their laptops, powering down their phones, and shutting off their cameras. They have transformed teaching and learning at FCS into something unexpected and unprecedented. With determination, creativity, and artistry, they have taken their teaching to a new platform and new level. It has been hard work and work well done.
Now that our building will be closed a while longer, today will allow our teachers and staff to pause and catch their breaths. There are six weeks left in the year, and much to be done as we bring this year to its end. When we return on Monday, we will be refreshed and renewed, ready to create and cultivate something new and beautiful.
