Turkey Boxes Get Stuffed

Thanksgiving came early at Friends Community School today. Classes in grades K through 8 joined in a school tradition of giving that dates back over two decades.
Every class and the FCS administration donated a total of 19 “Turkey Boxes” to the College Park Department of Youth, Family and Senior Services. Each box contains the fixings for a full Thanksgiving meal and will be distributed to families in the College Park area.
Families will receive a turkey, pie, potatoes, fruit, salad, cranberry sauce, green veggies, gravy, rolls, stuffing fixings, and apple cider. Students decorated their classroom Turkey Boxes with uplifting messages, autumnal colors, and turkey-themed flair.
This morning, students pushed the overflowing Turkey Boxes down the hall to the lobby, where members of the middle-school Heart and Hand committee, led by ⅞ math teacher Sam Laury, double-checked that all boxes were complete.
At 10:15 AM, a truck from the City of College Park arrived to pick up its Turkey Box passengers.  Fifth-grader and new committee member Elsa M. said she hopes each family feels “joyful” when they open their Turkey Box. “And I hope they have a good Thanksgiving.”
