"My favorite thing about teaching is hearing children ask questions, and encouraging them to ask many more."
Tess has taught in public, charter, and independent schools from New York to Denmark. Most recently, she taught 3rd grade at the progressive Shady Hill School in Boston and 4th grade at Gardner Pilot Academy in Boston Public Schools. She joins the FCS faculty in the 2019-20 school year, drawn to move to the D.C. area by FCS’s commitment to peace and justice, child-centered curriculum, and exploratory approach to learning. “I believe that curiosity is what drives children to thrive academically, connect interpersonally, and consider their role in building a just world,” she says. In her spare time, Tess trains for races, loves to read, and can often be found asking to pet strangers’ dogs.
