I was saddened to hear that a very good friend of FCS, Rob Soley, passed away over our holiday break. Many here know Rob as the private tutor who appeared at school at all hours to focus on the learning needs of our students. But Rob’s presence here was so much more than 45-minute segments of skill development. Rob built children’s confidence and gently reassured parents that their child was gaining skills and habits to find their way in life.
Some know that Rob was the former Head of School of Christian Family Montessori School. He also earned All-American athlete as a soccer player. Rob and I both grew up in the Philadelphia area, played sports (he at a higher level), and found careers in education. When I first met him 11 years ago, I was struck by his compassion, his integrity, his commitment to children’s success, and his ability to listen deeply. With my door shut, I could share challenges, concerns, and frustrations with Rob - the former Head of School. Patient and thoughtful, Rob always offered support, not advice, when I needed it.
A celebration of Rob’s life will be held on Saturday, January 26th at Capital Christian Fellowship, 10411 Greenbelt Rd, Lanham at 1 PM. Please hold Rob's wife Karen and his family in the Light.
