Holly Stephens

5/6 Language Arts Teacher

“I’m excited about teaching at a progressive school where the focus is on love of learning and teaching in creative ways.”

Holly’s first job out of college was as a radio DJ in Bellingham, Washington, but it was nothing like college radio. “You couldn’t deviate from the playlist, and they told you when to talk and what to say.” After six years of teaching English in Montgomery County public high schools, Holly joined the FCS faculty in the 2018-19 school year. She is passionate about fostering her students' love of reading and helping them develop writing skills that can make the world a better place. In addition to her experience in MCPS, Holly has worked in the Earlham College MAT and writing programs, and she has taught and coached in independent schools in Seattle and New Haven. In her spare time, Holly coaches a Takoma Park soccer team comprising quite a few FCS students (including her sons Coby and Sean). Ask Holly about Ultimate Frisbee: she met her husband playing competitively on the West Coast, and she is always looking for players—kid or adult—to join her family’s intergenerational pick-up group.
