Your Impact: Our Funds & Giving Opportunities

List of 4 items.

  • Annual Fund

The Annual Fund strengthens every part of our school by supporting daily operations and programs. Because it is flexible and unrestricted, it allows us to meet essential needs each year and respond quickly when new opportunities or challenges arise.

Annual Giving plays a key role at the school. It is not just a contribution, but an investment in the transformative nature of an FCS education. All contributions to the Friends Community School Annual Fund sustain the excellence of the school and the student experience. These gifts enable FCS to make bold and meaningful commitments to our students and faculty; a commitment that we simply couldn't fulfill through tuition revenue alone.

The school counts on collective gifts from parents, alumni, and friends to support this campaign, which directly enhances the educational experience of our students enabling them to develop the skills necessary to lifelong learners, courageous risk-takers and joyous peacemakers.

  • Blackburn Financial Aid

The Blackburn Financial Aid Fund embodies the Quaker value of integrity, ensuring that an FCS education remains accessible to families in need. Established in memory of Robin Blackburn, this fund transforms loss into opportunity, reinforcing our belief that from challenges, beauty and strength can emerge. After Robin’s passing at just 24 years old in 1985, the Blackburn family chose to honor his legacy by creating a fund that continues to uplift students today.

With 39% of FCS families receiving financial aid, this fund is a testament to our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community where every child can thrive.

    Your support helps:
Empower students to experience a transformative Quaker education.
Strengthen our community by fostering economic diversity.
Honor a lasting legacy of resilience, generosity, and opportunity.

By giving to the Blackburn Financial Aid Fund, you invest in the future of our students and uphold the values that make FCS extraordinary. Together, we can ensure that financial barriers never stand in the way of a child’s education.

  • Planned & Legacy Giving

Leave a legacy by including FCS in your estate plans or making a tax-free donation through your IRA (for those 70½ and older). Planned gifts, such as bequests, trusts, and beneficiary designations, ensure future generations benefit from a Friends education.

    PLANNED OR LEGACY GIVING

A planned or legacy gift may take a variety of forms: a simple bequest through your will, designation of a percentage of proceeds from your life insurance or retirement plan, a charitable trust, IRA distribution, or a gift of real estate or personal property. These gifts can provide significant tax benefits to you while strengthening FCS for years to come.

If you would like to include FCS in your estate plans, we would be happy to provide information and discuss various options available.

When making planned giving decisions, we recommend that you confer with your financial planner or attorney to secure the greatest benefit for yourself while helping the school.

    Planned Giving Options

    Simple Bequest
A bequest is a gift made through your will or living trust by adding language that describes your wishes. For example:

         -a specific dollar amount
         -a percentage of your estate
-whatever remains after specific beneficiaries have been paid
-other options as your advisor recommends

Sample bequest language can be found here.

    Minimum IRA Distribution
If you must take a minimum required distribution from your IRA, you have the option to direct your IRA administrator, through a simple form, to transfer all or a portion of the required distribution to Friends Community School. In doing so, the amount directed to FCS is not considered income to you by the IRS and may provide you with a significant tax benefit. The administrator of your IRA (such as TIAA, Fidelity, Vanguard, etc.) can provide the form to you.
