Holly Stephens

5/6 Language Arts Teacher

“I’m excited about teaching at a progressive school where the focus is on love of learning and teaching in creative ways.”

Holly brings an eclectic mix of professional experiences to her language arts classroom. Her first job out of college was as a radio DJ in Bellingham, Washington, and then she wrote radio ads for her station and for a small ad agency in Seattle. After volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club and coaching a high school ultimate frisbee team, Holly realized that teaching was her vocation, and since then she's taught and coached in Seattle; Salt Lake City; New Haven, Connecticut; Richmond, Indiana; and locally with Montgomery County schools.

Holly joined the FCS faculty in the 2018-19 school year. She is passionate about fostering her students' love of reading and helping them develop writing skills that can make the world a better place. When two 6th-graders asked Holly to help them start an FCS newspaper her first year, she took on what would grow to become an almost-50-student extracurricular activity, publishing 7-ish issues each year!

Holly also loves sharing her passion for ultimate frisbee with students, teaching enrichment classes for FCS middle schoolers and coaching local leagues. She and her husband (whom she met out West playing ultimate!) and their kids, both of whom attended FCS, love sports, books, and complicated board games.
