Dec. 7, 2018

At FCS, we kick off the holiday season with our school’s commitment to the families connected to College Park Youth and Family Services. Again this year, each class filled colorful “turkey boxes” with all of the necessary ingredients for a Thanksgiving meal for a family of eight. If you came into the school lobby this week, you noticed two large boxes that we will easily fill again, this time with clothes and toys.
More than five years ago, one of our families established a non-profit, Restore Together, that focuses on the needs of the underserved in D.C. At this time of year, Restore Together sponsors a winter clothing drive, collecting coats, hats, scarves, and gloves for children and adults for distribution just before Christmas. At the same time, we are collecting toys and games for children through our connection to the Bowie Interfaith Food Pantry. Both organizations do important work; we hope you and your children will find ways to contribute to one or both activities.

As we near the end of the calendar year, many people also think about their charitable giving for the year. My family has its favorite causes, and we try to support them in meaningful ways. Not surprisingly, Friends Community School rises to the top of our giving list, especially as we look to support our Annual Fund. Like most private schools, FCS builds budgets around the essentials of tuition and auxiliary program income, and expenses that include compensation and building-related costs. The Annual Fund helps support strategic planning initiatives, professional development, science, and additional playground equipment. Our ambitious goal of $100,000 by March 31 will support such worthy initiatives. During this busy season of giving, I hope you will take this time to plan your gift to FCS.

In Peace,

Larry
