The Confer Music and Art Fund

The Confer Music and Art Fund was established at FCS by Harold and June Confer, two of the founders of FCS.  Both an operating fund and an endowment, the Confer Music and Art Fund has purchased violins, violas, cellos and other instruments, obtained music and risers for the choirs, brought musicians and artists to the school to perform for students and parents, and provided vocal lessons for students who otherwise could not afford to pursue their talents.

You are invited to make any size donation to the fund.  The larger the gift, the more art and music education will grow and thrive at FCS.

One half of every gift is made available for immediate teaching needs, and one half for deposit by the trustees into an endowment portion to earn interest in perpetuity.  This creates a constantly growing long term investment that in many years to come could provide significant revenue for FCS music and arts programs not dependent on tuition.

The endowment art of the fund will live forever and will continue to make your gift available to future generations of students far beyond your lifetime.  That's a wonderful way to practice immortality in your own lfetime.  Watch your legacy grow!

To make a donation, you may send a check to FCS earmarked in the memo line for The Confer Music and Art Fund.  Send it to Friends Community School at the school address, 5901 Westchester Park Drive, College Park, MD 20740.

You may also donate online securely and conveniently by clicking on the Donate Now button at the top right of this page, and designating your gift to The Confer Music and Art Fund.

Don't forget, all gifts to The Confer Music and Art Fund are eligible for tax deduction.

    • A STORY OF SUCCESS
Harold S. Confer was an eleven year old church choir soloist when a professional concert pianist, W. Theo Jenney, heard him sing and offered him voice lessons, This led to two tours of America as a boy soprano. Studying at the University of Illinois, he majored in music, earned his BA and then his Masters degree at Northwestern University. He began teaching music in the state of Wisconsin, then was offered the post of Professor and Chairman of the Music Department of the San Bernardino Valley College in California, a post he held until he retired.

    • Harold B. Confer was a teacher, writer, potter, cartoonist, and lover of music of all kinds. Harold followed the Quaker advice to "answer that of God in every person," especially recognizing and encouraging the gifts of young people in the arts and their service to others. He used his material resources to do just that.

Both Harold S. and Harold B. Confer inspired generations of students with their knowledge and passion for music and the arts. With your generous contribution, the fund will keep growing and continue to make a difference in the lives of the creative children at FCS.
