Job Summary
The Math Specialist/Coach will work closely with teachers in grades K-4 in the implementation of math instruction with the goals of lifting the level of instruction in each classroom and providing support to align expectations and practices across grade levels. In addition, the Math Specialist/Coach will provide support for students through math instruction, teaching one class from each grade level from 1st-4th. This role will also lead and support ongoing curricular development. Qualified candidates will possess a Master’s degree in a related field and experience and/or training in various math approaches.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Lead math learning for grades K-4
○ Collaborate with teachers to design and implement effective math curriculum aligned with educational standards and Middle School curriculum
○ Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for math teachers to enhance their instructional strategies and stay informed about best practices.
○ Analyze student performance data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement, and use this information to inform instructional decisions
○ Offer guidance and support to classroom teachers in planning and delivering effective math lessons, including the integration of technology and hands-on activities
○ Develop and implement assessments to measure student progress and proficiency in math, and using the results to adjust instructional approaches
○ Assist teachers in developing and implementing strategies to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those requiring additional support or enrichment
○ Manage and organize math-related resources, including textbooks, digital tools, manipulatives, and other instructional materials
○ Communicate with parents and the community about the school's math program, providing resources for at-home support, and facilitating workshops or events to enhance math understanding
○ Stay current with developments in math education, including new teaching methods, technologies, and research, and sharing this information with educators
○ Design and implement intervention programs for students who may need additional support in math
● Contribute to the FCS school-wide community
○ Participate in weekly Meeting for Worship
○ Facilitate non-violent conflict resolution
○ Participate in scheduled school events such as parent-teacher conferences, Back-to-School Night, and field trips
○ Attend major school-wide events, including the Fall Fair and the Spring Auction
● Ensure communication across constituencies
○ Work in partnership with all members of the teaching team and the administration
○ Communicate proactively and responsively with individual families
○ Complete all progress reports and student recommendations in a professional and timely manner, emphasizing the individual strengths and challenges for each student
○ Write letters of recommendation
● Continuously integrate the school’s commitment to Quakerism, Progressive Education, and Equity in your classroom
○ Participate in weekly staff meetings
○ Engage in continuous, ongoing professional development
○ Collaborate with colleagues in professional learning communities
○ Partner with a teacher in the middle school to facilitate cross divisional peer-to-peer relationships among middle and lower school students
○ Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Desired and/or Required
● Genuine love for children, especially lower schoolers
● Bachelor’s degree (required)
● Master’s degree (preferred)
● Minimum of three years of classroom experience
● Understanding of child development
● Commitment to Progressive Education and to equity and inclusion
● Knowledge of Quaker beliefs and practices
● Experience integrating technology within the math curriculum
● Excellent oral and written communication skills
● Ability to collaborate with coworkers and other school community members
